How do we create resilient trails in floodplains without overbuilding? What do trail stewards, advocates, & planners need to consider as we build out new trail infrastructure that links our regional network? What lessons can we learn from the Violet Crown Trail and Gilleland Creek Trail?

Join George Cofer, Tim Eischen, Drew Carman, and Russell Thomman to discuss the challenges and opportunities of building trails in Austin’s floodplains. Russell will introduce the Violet Crown Trail and Gilleland Creek Trail to put them in context. Tim and George will share some planning and field engineering best practices they’ve used to help build out the Violet Crown Trail. Drew will take us through some of the planning, permitting, and construction processes for building a trail with intensive infrastructure, like Gilleland Creek Trail. We will leave plenty of time for discussion and Q&A.
