Who we are

Austin Outside believes improving our community’s connection to nature is vital to improving everyone’s quality of life. For more than 30 years, a small number of environmentally-focused Central Texas nonprofits worked together to advocate for bond funding for parks and open space, as well as for sidewalks, trails and protected bikeways.  Recognizing the power of collaboration and the need for more sustained citizen advocacy and oversight, the Austin Outside (AO) coalition was formally established in 2019.

 
 

It all started when…

Today, our 60+-member coalition works year-round to champion projects that expand and improve outdoor spaces, create more equitable access to the outdoors, promote environmental stewardship, and maximize the impact of limited public dollars. Beyond our advocacy work, Austin Outside provides a welcoming community where individuals, businesses and non-profits passionate about protecting the environment and enjoying nature can share, learn and connect.
